Vermont is mourning the death of Shawna Lidsky, the longtime sports anchor, journalist and entrepreneur who died Friday morning after battling cancer for more than five years. She was 50 and was just days away from her 51st birthday.

Lidsky became a familiar face to Vermont television viewers after joining WCAX in 1998. Her energetic reporting style, storytelling ability and sense of humor helped make her a respected figure in the state’s sports community.

During her broadcasting career, Lidsky received an Edward R. Murrow Award and Associated Press honors for her features and sportscasts. She also became part of the WCAX morning team alongside Gary Sadowsky and the late Judy Simpson.
