A 24-year-old casino worker has died following a tragic incident at The Star Casino’s Sky Deck at Queen’s Wharf in Brisbane, with reports stating that the young woman died by suicide.

The woman, who worked in Star Brisbane’s room service division and was originally from the Philippines, reportedly accessed the 100-metre-high Sky Deck before falling from the area.

Her death has prompted renewed scrutiny of safety measures at the Brisbane casino, following allegations that concerns about the accessibility of the Sky Deck’s external barriers had been raised months before the incident.

According to reports based on emails obtained by The Sydney Morning Herald, a senior Brisbane manager first raised concerns in May 2025 about a gap beside the glass safety barrier and warned that the handrail could create a serious safety risk. A further warning was reportedly issued in July.

Another manager allegedly raised concerns in September, specifically identifying a potential risk involving falls and suggesting modifications to prevent people from accessing or climbing the external balustrades.

In October 2025, a technical specialist reportedly engaged by Destination Brisbane Consortium reviewed the area and highlighted concerns about the “climbability” of the Sky Deck balustrade.

Despite those warnings, reports indicate that permanent safety modifications had not been completed before the young worker’s death. Temporary measures, including additional security and hoarding, were reportedly introduced afterward.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation. The Star Entertainment Group has reportedly been approached for comment regarding the safety concerns and the measures taken following the tragedy.

The death has left colleagues and others connected to the Brisbane casino community grieving while also raising questions about whether earlier safety warnings should have prompted stronger preventative action.

Authorities and relevant agencies are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and the safety arrangements at the Sky Deck.

The worker’s identity has not been publicly identified in the information available. Her death represents a tragic loss at just 24 years old, with condolences extended to her family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time.
