Pike County Girl Scouts Accident – 8-Year-Old Oaklie Recovering After Serious Crash

PIKE COUNTY, Ind. — An 8-year-old Girl Scout named Oaklie is recovering in a pediatric intensive care unit after a serious crash in Pike County on Saturday night that killed two people and critically injured four juveniles.

The collision happened on State Road 64 at County Road 1000 East, where emergency crews responded to the scene.

Oaklie Injured in Pike County Crash

According to information shared by Oaklie’s family and friends, the third grader was among a group of girls returning home from a Pike County Girl Scout trip to Holiday World when the crash occurred.

Oaklie was flown to a Louisville hospital following the collision. Her family said she suffered brain bleeds and remains hospitalized in the pediatric ICU.

Her mother, Elizabeth, said Oaklie is currently in stable condition, although she has experienced vomiting and double vision following the crash.

Doctors have also diagnosed Oaklie with cranial nerve 6 palsy. She is expected to wear a cervical collar for several weeks after leaving the hospital.

Community Supports Oaklie and Her Family

News of Oaklie’s injuries has prompted an outpouring of support from friends, community members and her school.

Otwell Miller Academy, where Oaklie is a third-grade student, shared a message asking the community to keep her and her family in their thoughts and prayers.

The school also asked students and supporters to wear blue on Monday, honoring Oaklie’s favorite color and showing support during her recovery.

Fundraiser Established

An online fundraiser has also been established to help Oaklie’s family with medical bills and travel expenses while she remains hospitalized.

The campaign had raised more than $3,400 as of Sunday afternoon, after being shared widely across social media.

The family’s focus remains on Oaklie’s recovery as she continues to receive care and monitoring in the hospital.

Investigation Continues

The crash remains under investigation, and authorities have not yet released complete details about what led to the collision or the identities and conditions of all those involved.

Two people were killed and four juveniles were critically injured in the crash.
