Following retirement, Tony remained deeply involved in boxing and became an important source of support for his son Anthony after Anthony transitioned from rugby league to professional boxing.

Anthony confirmed his father’s death while returning home from Saudi Arabia, sharing an emotional tribute to his father.

“Dad I love you man, may Allah bless your soul,” Anthony wrote, describing himself as heartbroken and saying he was returning home to say goodbye.

Tributes quickly followed from prominent Australian boxing figures.

Former world champion George Kambosos Jr described Tony as an Australian boxing legend and offered his condolences to Anthony and the wider Mundine family.

Danny Green, who had a long-running rivalry with Anthony Mundine, also paid tribute, recalling watching Tony fight on television and describing him as a gentleman he deeply respected.

Tony’s influence on boxing also continued through the next generation. His grandson Rahim Mundine has followed the family tradition and has begun his own professional boxing career.
