LOWER MOUNT BETHEL TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The Easton community is mourning the death of Chad A. Hess, 46, who was killed in a head-on motorcycle crash Saturday evening in Northampton County. According to Pennsylvania State Police, Hess, of Easton and originally from Bangor, was riding a 2010 Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide southbound on North Delaware Drive, also known as Route 611, in Lower Mount Bethel Township at approximately 5:10 p.m. on August 29, 2026. Police said Hess lost control of the motorcycle, crossed into the northbound lane and collided with a 2011 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide traveling in the opposite direction. Hess suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Northampton County Coroner’s Office. The other motorcyclist, identified as John T. Gurski, 50, of Bangor, was transported by Suburban EMS to St. Luke’s Hospital-Anderson Campus with suspected serious injuries. His son, Jacob, shared an emotional tribute to his father following the crash, expressing his love and his determination to keep Chad’s memory alive. Loved ones also planned to gather Sunday evening at the crash site to place flowers and pay their respects. They were expected to continue the remembrance at the Democratic Club in Martins Creek. Investigation Underway The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by Pennsylvania State Police. Authorities have not indicated that any additional vehicles were involved. The investigation will determine the events leading up to the collision and the factors that caused Hess to lose control of his motorcycle.
