Chris Beck Obituary, Spring Grove, PA Death – Funeral Home President Dies Suddenly at 62

SPRING GROVE, PENNSYLVANIA — Christopher M. Beck, president of Beck Family Funeral Homes & Crematory and a longtime funeral director who devoted much of his career to serving families across York County, died suddenly and unexpectedly on August 22, 2026. He was 62.

Beck was born in Philadelphia on December 12, 1963, and pursued his lifelong goal of becoming a funeral director and owning his own funeral home. After obtaining his funeral director’s license and working in the Philadelphia area, he realized that ambition in 2009 when he purchased the former Robert E. Irwin Funeral Home in Spring Grove.

Over the following 17 years, Beck became deeply connected to the Spring Grove community. His funeral-home business later expanded to East York in 2019 and McSherrystown in 2020, allowing him to serve families in additional communities.

His obituary describes Beck as humble, gentle, warm and generous, with a commitment to putting others before himself. His work brought him into the lives of families during some of their most difficult moments, and his kindness earned him the respect of those he served.

Away from his profession, Beck enjoyed golf, fishing and spending time at his vacation home in Ocean City, Maryland. He also enjoyed taking family and friends fishing aboard his boat, affectionately known as “The Undertaker.”

Above all, Beck was devoted to his family. He shared 35 years of marriage with his high school sweetheart, Laura A. Beck, and was a proud father and grandfather. His most recent joy was his grandson, Oliver, whom he cherished deeply.

Beck is survived by his wife, Laura; children Gabriella, Nicholas, Vincent and Victoria; grandson Oliver; and extended family members.

A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for August 31 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in York. Visitation will be held August 29 at Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Spring Grove.
