Jeff Toole, a longtime Hamilton, Ontario, educator and hockey coach, reportedly died on August 22, 2026, leaving the local education and hockey communities mourning the loss of a respected mentor.

Toole dedicated more than three decades to teaching and was associated with St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School and the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board. After retiring from teaching, he remained deeply involved in hockey, continuing to coach and mentor young athletes.

His coaching career spanned numerous levels of the sport, including AAA and AA hockey, high-school programs, player development and coach education. He also held Hockey Canada High Performance 1 certification and was involved with the Hamilton Huskies, where his work included coaching and coach development.

One of his memorable achievements came in 2024, when he guided the St. Thomas More Knights to the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic boys’ high-school hockey championship. The victory was particularly meaningful because it was reportedly Toole’s first high-school hockey championship after years of coaching.

Toole’s commitment to developing young players continued into 2026. Hamilton Steel had selected him to coach its U14 AAA team for the 2026–27 season, highlighting that his passion for mentoring young athletes remained strong even after his retirement from teaching.

Those who knew Toole will remember him not only for his accomplishments behind the bench, but also for the influence he had on generations of students and players. His career was built around teaching, leadership, discipline and helping young people reach their potential.

A cause of death has not been publicly confirmed in the information currently available. Funeral, visitation and memorial arrangements have also not been announced.

Jeff Toole leaves behind a lasting legacy in Hamilton’s education and hockey communities. His years of service, coaching and mentorship touched many young lives, and his contributions will continue to be remembered by the students, athletes, colleagues and families who knew him.
